Joe came over carrying a nice traditional basket for过大礼 on Saturday. Here’s what he’s brought. 16 Oranges, 16 pig trotters 猪脚, 2 bottles of Martell Brandy, 4 boxes of Chinese traditional cakes 囍饼, 16 cake vouchers, 2 sets of phoenix and dragon candles龙凤烛, 1 set of 4 piece jewellery 四点金, a packet of dry seeds with red dates and finally, the most important of all, the trousseau娉金. We have been brief by Joe’s mum that we be receiving 2 red packets 红包, one “nappy ang pow” to show appreciation for bringing me up where my mum will just keep all, and another for her to take a comfortable sum and return the rest. It is believe that the bride family should not take all as it will reflect as being greedy. Nevertheless, my mum has decided to return all in exchange for tables during our wedding dinner.
So when Joe leaves, he is require to collect some return gifts at our end. Like 8 oranges, 8 pig trotters 猪脚, 2 boxes of Chinese traditional cakes 囍饼, 1 pair of the phoenix candles, as well as some items prepared on our end like, my wedding jewellery from relatives, tea pot set for tea Ceremony, two bottles of orange juice, two red packet for groom, one for birthday and another to buy land, a couple of pillows and bedside lamps. All these we are require to paste the 囍 stickers before Joe bring them back.
Woosh…all that with detailed discussion and careful organising, this can only be done 2 weeks before the wedding. We even got a new bed and this bed cannot be slept on until the wedding. So poor Joe has to sleep on the floor for 2 weeks.
